Three Filipino officials join outstanding international leaders this Tuesday night, at the Meralco Theater, as winners of this year’s Gusi Peace Prize. They are Chief Public Attorney Persida Rueda-Acosta, Presidential Anti-Graft Commission Chair Constancia de Guzman and former senator and former environment secretary Heherson Alvarez. In the light of the recent Nobel Peace Prize jointly awarded to former US Vice President Al Gore and the Inter-Governmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and the IPPC’s landmark report on global warming, it’s right and fitting that the Gusi Peace Prize goes to Alvarez. Now chair of the Philippine Mining Development Corporation, he’s recognized principally for his environmental advocacies and pioneering crusade here since the early ’90s against global warming and climate change. The Gusi Peace Foundation is chaired by Ambassador Barry Gusi; its president is PCSO Director Manuel Morato.
